Still Winter, In May

It’s May, but I can show you plenty of places with snow on the ground. Such as the train tracks near Frasier, BC.

May in BC And even though there is still snow in some places, I can also say for sure that the bears are out. Such as this guy I saw near Teslin, YT.

Yesterday was an amazing day for a drive and I’m feeling blessed that I was available and motivated enough to take full advantage. That was one of the best days I’ve ever had for wildlife viewing. A lynx crossed the highway in front of my car! I did get a photo, but the quality suffered badly from it being shot through the windshield of my car. Still, it’s good enough to prove it’s a lynx.

I also saw a snowshoe hare, a couple dozen mountain goats, a sow black bear with last year’s cub, two northern harriers, Canada geese and snow geese, mallards, a pair of loons, several red squirrels, and a million or so of those damn ground squirrels that like to play chicken with the car.

Where am I going to go next? There are so many places to explore, it’s hard to choose. The great thing about living in Alaska and having easy access to the Yukon and BC is that everything is so beautiful.

That also makes it hard to decide a place for the next adventure.
