Someday Doesn’t Exist

There is no such thing as someday. There’s no such thing as next week, and sometimes there’s no such thing as tomorrow. That’s all the equivalent of the check being in the mail – it’s never going to arrive.

I know people who have great plans for life but not until after the kids are older, when they don’t have to work as much, when the mood strikes, when they have the money. And of course these people don’t ever get around to putting any of their plans into action.

I have yet to see this technique bring inner peace or lasting happiness to anyone, so I don’t advise it.

If there’s something you want to do, just fucking do it.

The only person expecting you to be perfect is you. The rest of us are half-assing our way through life just fine. Be brave enough to be imperfect.

Do things badly, quit in the middle of a project that’s not working out for you, make ugly art. Tell your critics to fuck off. Just make a choice and do your thing.

It doesn’t take a superhero. You can do what you want in the time you have to do it with the money you have. Stop putting your life on hold for someday, because someday doesn’t exist.

What’s my basis for saying this? Here I am, today, saying that I would like to get back to posting regularly on my blog. I am also sitting here thinking to myself that I don’t think people will like some of what I have already written and have not published. In other words, I’m letting the imaginary judgement of others stop me from doing something that I want to do.

Fuck that. If I don’t give a rat’s ass about someone actually judging me, why do I care what happens in my imagination?

The hard lesson has been learned again that there is no “someday.” I’ll write a new blog post. I can claim I’ve been too busy, but busy at what? Looking at cat pictures on Instagram? And the reason doesn’t matter, anyway.

Bottom line, I’m here, I wrote this, and here it is. Like it, hate it, be indifferent to it, that’s all up to you. As for me, I showed up and did the work. Cheers.
